SCP Board-of-Advisors are uncompensated volunteers, who commit to our objectives out of their own personal interest and dedication to environmental protection and advocacy. Bob McLaughlin has been an advisor with SCP since 1999. McLaughlin is the main contact for media interaction and boat handling duties for SCP.  Holding a bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies from the University of Washington, McLaughlin also holds a U.S. Coast Guard license for 100 ton, Master of steam, motor, and sailboats. McLaughlin is also a licensed private pilot, emergency medical technician - certified open water diver, and a licensed amateur radio operator. McLaughlin was also district representative to United States Senator Henry M. Jackson, and has conducted film and documentary consulting and production for Warner Brothers, the Jean Michael Cousteau Institute, Fisher Entertainment, Cox Broadcasting, CNN, German Television, National Geographic, Nature Magazine, the Seattle Times, Paramount Television, ABC, NBC, CBS, and FOX television.

 

Anna ‘Teri’ Tyo has been a SCP advisor since 2003.  Tyo is responsible for developing SCP’s education initiatives for youth, and supports SCP’s interactions with academic districts and school programs in Snohomish County, Washington. Tyo, who is pursuing a degree in education from Western Washington University, has been active in classroom activities and in the development of strategic academic curriculum development for students aged from 10 to 17. A prior candidate for a Snohomish County school district seat, Tyo is  active in community education support activities such as the passing of public bonds and levees, parent academic advisory groups, and academic curriculum review. Focusing on elementary grade education, Tyo interfaces with regional school districts and youth groups (through the YMCA and educational cooperative programs), and has been a leader in SCP’s tree planting and youth expeditional learning programs. 

 

Patricia ‘Pat’ Woodfin is an elementary teacher’s assistant and travel broker in Texas, and acts as SeaWolf’s volunteer coordinator and fundraiser since 2002.  Woodfin initially started volunteering with SeaWolf as a casual education in 2001, and has raised funding for SeaWolf’s youth educational field seminars on an annual basis since 2002.  Focusing on developing industry support through the provision of presentations and briefs to the corporate sector in Texas, Woodfin has been able to drive our youth field program for four concurrent years. Woodfin has been the lead SeaWolf volunteer in the SeaWolf Educational Adventures student field science curriculum program since 2002 and has lead fundraising and program coordination for the program, developed from a prototype program created by SeaWolf’s director for Marysville’s Tulalip Elementary students in 2001.  

Robert Wood has been an advisor for SCP since 2000.  A graduate of Fort Lewis College in Durango, Colorado, Wood has taken special studies in broadcasting at Cambridge, UK. Wood has been in the broadcasting industry for over 20 years, having worked at KIRO, KIXI, K-Lite and KJR.  Wood has also worked in Liberia at ELWA and other stations in Colorado.  He is a past board member of the Puget Sound Chapter of ACS (American Cetacean Society), and a current board member of Interspecies Communication, and Global Research and Rescue. Wood is currently an active amateur ham radio license holder and licensed Captain (USCG/Merchant Marine).  Over the past five years, Wood has accumulated over 35,000 miles on the waters of the Pacific Northwest, filming (video and photography) marine mammals for various projects.

Arun Kundu-Thomsen is a professional Canadian federal agent and acts as our environmental liaison with Canadian advocacy groups. Having worked with groups such as the Canadian Parks & Wilderness Society, the Mountain Equipment Co-op, and the Canada Trust Environmental Foundation, Arun volunteers as a camera operator on marine videography diving projects. Kundu-Thomsen is a trained diver and has experience working with marine protection enforcement and federal, provincial and international governments.  Kundu-Thomsen provides guidance on issues related to maritime law and expeditionary learning programs.

 

Brandy Knight has been an SCP advisor since 2006.  Knight is the designated broker and owner of Coastal Keys Realty Group, Inc., and acts as SCP’s conduit with the Snohomish County business community. With experience as a City Council candidate in 2007, Knight is also active as SCP’s representative with local and state government, and provides guidance in SCP’s fundraising initiatives.  Prior to founding Coastal Keys Realty Group, she also founded, operated and sold Timberland Realty Group in Arlington , WA .  Knight, who originally hails from Texas , contributes a background of fifteen years experience in the legal field and training in client portfolio diversification with stocks, bonds, annuities, mutual funds, retirement plans, tax leveraging and real estate investing. Knight, whose interests include swimming, scuba diving, traveling, photography, camping and boating resides in Monroe with her husband and their three children.

Michael Kundu, Executive Director, Lake Stevens Washington. SeaWolf Founder and director Michael Kundu is a full-time employee of a federal government agency. Kundu also holds a volunteer role as the elected President of the Marysville School Board Director (since 2003), and was a previous executive committee member of the Sierra Club and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. An avid freelance wildlife photojournalist, Kundu conducts guest lectures at Edmonds and Evergreen Colleges, and teaches casual classes in wildlife photography and ‘bear awareness’ at Everett Community College.
