SCP Salmon and Watershed Stewardship Campaign - Free 'Salmon Friendly Lawn Signs' Now Available

SCP announces the availability of FREE 'Salmon Friendly Lawn Signs' to all homeowners who are willing to eliminate the use of toxic fertilizers, herbicides and pesticides from their gardens in 2005. These colourful signs are designed to be placed on a small stake on your lawn, and will help promote an increased awareness about the problem of toxic gardening run-off in your neighborhood. Signs are available for free by sending a SASE – a self-addressed, stamped (90-cents) envelop to: ‘Project SeaWolf Salmon Signs, Post Office Box 929, Marysville, WA 98270.

These signs are available for free! You simply pay the cost for postage on your own envelope, which we will re-use to save paper. Your placement of these signs (using a commonly available wooden 14-inch stake) will help build neighborhood awareness about toxic lawn run-off to Puget Sound homeowners. Click here to see a sample of our ‘covenant’ which describes how you’re helping the environment when you place these signs.  Since 1998, we have circulated over 58,000 signs throughout the Puget Sound region, and our campaign has been emulated in New York ’s Hudson River, and by groups like Hawaii ’s Reef keepers, Montana ’s Trout Unlimited, and Gray’s Harbor County.

Why do we use the SASE? SCP uses this method of sign distribution for a reason – we know that, by taking the time to provide a self-addressed envelop, you are committed to placing these signs on your yard.  This way, we are fairly certain that our stock of signs – and their application for the purpose we designed them - can be accurately audited.  We try to reduce waste as much as possible.

Thanks immensely for taking a part in this wonderful public education effort.  By placing one of these signs in your yard, you are helping to educate friends and neighbors about the vibrant connection between our lawns, and the rivers and streams running into the great Puget Sound all around us. These signs are made to withstand the weather and rain for up to the whole year, but if your signs wears out, we'll gladly send you another one.

The 2008 Salmon Lawn sign campaign has been made possible with the help of individual contributors. We will contribute to send signs out until our remaining stock is depleted.
